What are the arrival and departure times for camp?
Plan to arrive between 3:00 and 5:00 p.m. on Friday, May 16th, if possible.

Which meals are included?
The fees cover all meals and snacks from Friday's supper to Monday's breakfast, inclusive.

Breakfast at 8:30 a.m.

What if a family member has a special diet?
The chef is able to accommodate food allergies and many other dietary restrictions. Please let us know your dietary needs when you register for camp.

Will you be able to accommodate limited food preferences?
There will be a choice of food at camp. There will be a soup and salad bar at both lunch and dinner. That said, if you have a family member with very limited food preferences, it would be best to bring food from home that they will eat. We will have 24/7 access to a refrigerator in The Nest.

What if a family member needs food pureed or blended?
You will have access to a kitchen in The Nest. Please bring your own blender and blend your own food. Most other kitchen amenities will be available for use. Just ask us if you have a more specific need.

Is the camp wheelchair accessible?
Yes! Camp Kintail is fully accessible. If you need to know about specific details for your needs, please contact us.

Does the camp have a back-up plan in the case of a power outage?
Yes, there is a generator on site which may be used for anyone who has medical equipment requiring power.

Will there be bugs at camp in May?
Not likely. Camp Kintail is on the shores of Lake Huron and there is almost always a breeze coming off the lake. It is rare to spot mosquitos or black flies at camp.

Yes. There is high-speed Wi-Fi across the site.

Is there heating or air conditioning at camp?
In The Nest and Feathers there is climate control. In MacDonald Lodge, there are fans if needed. Our accommodations coordinator will discuss the amenities with you if there is space available after we received your application form.

We will have families lodging in The Nest and MacDonald Lodge. Depending on demand, some families may stay in cabins. Our FLASH Camp sessions will take place in The Nest. Meals will be in MacDonald Lodge. There are washrooms in most rooms, as well as public washrooms in the main buildings. You can read about facilities at Camp Kintail's website.
In addition, we will have access to the hiking trails, the gazebo, the swings, and the beach (no lifeguards). The accessible high ropes course will be open only when trained counsellors are scheduled to supervise. There is also a disc golf course, a basketball court, a vegetable garden and some chickens.

You can see a sample schedule on the Typical Day part of this site. Meals are served at specific times and there will be a choice of educational sessions or camp activities throughout the days and evenings. Families will be welcome to take free time at your discretion, but there are breaks scheduled in the weekend, as well.

Will there be someone available to look after my kids?
Families will be responsible for their own children's personal care and supervision. Volunteers and camp counsellors will be participating in the weekend to help with communication strategies and leading camp activities. We encourage you to bring support workers or additional family members (e.g. grandparents) if you would like to have the freedom to attend all the sessions while someone else does the personal care.

Can the kids come to the sessions?
Yes. Anyone can go to any session. However, some sessions will be specifically designed for parents only. Others will be designed for whole-family involvement.

Is my child ready for the literacy component at camp?
If your family has an interest in learning more about literacy and AAC, there will be components of the program that you will find helpful. We will expect you to come to camp with a familiar communication system. Once your registration is confirmed, we may reach out to you to obtain more information about your child. If you would like to connect with one of us before deciding to apply to camp, please contact us.

Will there be a waiting list once the camp is full?
Yes, we will keep a waiting list when registration fills up. We will also explore options to accommodate people in other buildings.

What if I need to cancel?
Just send us an email and we will process your cancellation. You will get a refund on your deposit if you cancel before April 1st.

Would we be able to get an invoice from the SLP at camp to submit as an insurance claim?
No. They are only able to provide a receipt for SLP services if the SLP was providing them with direct support that they were paying for. As the SLP’s are volunteering their time and not offering private SLP support, they could not provide a receipt.

Can we get a receipt for the camp fees?
Yes. Receipts will be issued for camp fees. They are not eligible for charitable donations for tax purposes.

Can people donate money to the camp?
